Conductor for the Final LEON BOSCH

We have the pleasure and honor the have Leon Bosch as conductor for the final!

Leon Bosch enjoys an international career as double bassist, conductor, chamber musician, broadcaster, writer and educator, and is widely regarded as one of the most versatile musical figures of his generation. His work spans solo and chamber performance, orchestral leadership, conducting, broadcasting, recording, teaching and artistic curation, united by a longstanding commitment to expanding the repertoire and rediscovering neglected music.

For nearly twenty years he served as Principal Double Bass of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and also held a principal position with the Manchester Camerata. Alongside an extensive international solo and chamber music career, he has appeared at many of Europe’s leading venues and festivals, and has released more than twenty acclaimed solo recordings.

A noted advocate for unjustly neglected repertoire, Bosch has become one of today’s leading champions of the music of Sperger . His work has included manuscript research, editorial reconstruction, modern premieres and major recording initiatives in collaboration with The Hanover Band. He is currently leading an ambitious long-term project to record the complete Sperger symphonies and orchestral works, bringing renewed international attention to one of the late Classical era’s most significant yet overlooked composers.

His broader artistic work reflects an equally strong commitment to musical discovery and cultural storytelling. He is Artistic Director of I Musicanti, Ubuntu Ensemble and founder of Tring Camerata . Through these ensembles he has developed innovative projects exploring neglected chamber repertoire, South African classical music and historically important rediscoveries.

Beyond performance, Bosch is also known as a broadcaster and writer. His work for BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 has explored music, history and identity, and he received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Storytelling Award for the acclaimed series Classical Africa. In 2024 he was awarded the Cobbett Medal for Services to Chamber Music.

A dedicated pedagogue, Bosch is Professor of Double Bass at and has taught, coached and adjudicated internationally for many years. His work with young musicians and emerging artists forms a central part of his artistic life, combining scholarship, communication and performance experience at the highest level.
